young readerThe Florence C. Center Young Readers' Room, also known as the Children's Room, is located on the lower level of the library.
The children's collection includes print, electronic, audio, and visual materials for children from birth through 6th grade.
In addition, the Children's Room offers regular activities, such as Story Time for preschoolers, Make 'n Take crafts, contests, a Summer Reading Club, and other goodies.

On Your Mark... Get Set... READ!
Birth - 36 Months
June 21 - August 5

Designed for our youngest "readers" and their parents or caregivers, this easy program has lots of fun little activities to enjoy on your own, plus Baby and Toddler Tales on Friday mornings.

For the Preschool and Elementary School crowd, we have more of what you love: reading, crafts, contests, games, performers, science, animals and ice cream.  Help your kids beat the "summer slide," by encouraging them to read this summer.



 

Book Babies Story Time

Babies, newborn-18 months, and their caregivers are invited to join Miss Carrie-Anne for a 20 minute lapsit including simple board books, rhymes and songs, on Friday mornings at10:30.

Book Babies is held most weeks from September thru May. During the Summer Reading Program Baby/Toddler Tales is held on Fridays at 10:30AM.



 

Tiny Tales Story Time



Toddlers, age 18-35 months, and their caregivers are invited to join Miss Carrie-Anne for a 20 minute lapsit including simple stories, rhymes and songs, on Friday mornings at11:30AM.

Tiny Tales is held most weeks from September thru May. During the Summer Reading Program Baby/Toddler Tales is held on Fridays at 10:30AM.




 

Preschool Story Time



Kids age 3 - kindergarten are invited to drop in and join Miss Carrie-Anne for stories, songs, and fun on Tuesday mornings from 10:30-11:00. 
 
Story Time Guidelines

Story Time is not held when there is no school in Litchfield due to holidays, vacations, or weather closings .

During the Summer Reading Program Family Story Time is held on Tuesdays at 10:30AM.

 

Evening Story Time



Evening Story Time events are held on the 1st Thursday of February, April, June, October and December at 6:30 p.m.

Pajama Story Time is not held when there is no school in Litchfield due to holidays, vacations, and weather closings.

 

Book Bunch



book bunch image courtesy of imagechef.comBook Bunch is a book group for kids in grades 3-5 that meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. The group discusses the book, completes a quick activity, and begins the next book.  Copies of the book are available in the Young Readers' Room.

 

Page Turners



Page Turners is a book group for tweens in grades 6-8 that meets the 2nd Thursday of each month at 2:30 p.m. The group discusses their chosen title, completes a quick activity, and begins the next book.  Copies of the book are available in the Young Readers' Room.

Transportation from LMS to the library is available.

 

Kid's Tabletop Game Night



Kid's Tabletop Game Night is a drop-in evening board games for children ages 8-13 that meets the 2nd Thursday of each month from 6:00-8:00PM.  Children may be dropped off or parents and siblings may stay and play.
